Andrew Scherer - Awarded 2021 SPS Outstanding Leadership Scholarship
Andrew Scherer, a member of the Mandel Honors College majoring in Physics and Environmental Sciences, has been awarded a prestigious 2021 SPS Outstanding Leadership Scholarship by the National Society of Physics Students (SPS) office of the American Institute of Physics. In addition to his academic pursuits, Andrew has performed undergraduate research with support from CSU's Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) program in 2019 and in 2020, working in the lab of Dr. Kiril Streletzky. He has presented his research nationally at the 2021 March Meeting of the American Physical Society. Andrew has also worked as a student assistant for NSF supported Soft Matter Physics Research Experiences for Undergraduates (Soft Matter REU) program at CSU. For the summer of 2021 Andrew got admitted into the NSF's Monterey Bay Ocean Sciences REU program at California State University, where his research project focused on physical oceanography off the Pacific Ocean.
Andrew was elected president of the CSU SPS chapter in the Spring 2021 and has been the key organizer of most SPS activities at CSU and an active participant of our outreach team at CIS during the past two years.
