Computational and Applied Modeling Certificate

Program Description

The Computational and Applied Modeling Certificate fosters critical quantitative reasoning skills and trains certificate seekers in modern computational and applied modeling techniques. The training is done through course work developing expertise in modeling phenomena in the physical, life, and social sciences, as well as financial mathematics. Depending on the electives chosen, the curricula may include probabilistic and deterministic modeling, financial mathematics, high-performance computing, analytic techniques, and computational mathematics.

The curricula ranges from probabilistic and deterministic modeling, high-performance computing techniques, and computational science techniques that would engage the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) and CSU's own Center for Applied Data Analysis and Modeling (ADAM).  Having coursework that centers on mathematical modeling would prepare students to work at a variety of STEM industries, from companies that range from biotech, pharmaceutical industries, engineering, and financial firms.

The ability to look at a phenomena and describe it using a mathematical language and to use predictive modeling in our world is a sought out expertise. A Certificate in Computational and Applied Modeling consists of 15 credits with a grade of C or better in each course. This roughly translates to three electives in addition to the required MTH 311 and MTH 401.
