Playhouse Square

As the country’s largest performing arts center outside of New York, this downtown Cleveland not-for-profit performing arts center utilizes the arts to engage individuals and attract more than one million guests per year to its 1,000+ annual events. Playhouse Square (PHS) venues include the Connor Palace, State Theatre, Ohio Theatre, Hanna Theatre, Westfield Insurance Studio Theatre, Kennedy’s Theatre, Allen Theatre complex, and the U.S. Bank Plaza - Playhouse Square’s unofficial 10th stage.

The Department of Theatre and Dance performs in the Allen Theatre Complex, home to three state-of-the art stages: the 514-seat Allen Theatre, the 334-seat Outcalt Theatre, and the 150-seat Helen Rosenfeld Lewis Bialosky Lab Theatre (“The Helen”).

CSU Faculty, Staff and Students attend classes and performances in the vibrant downtown Playhouse Square atmosphere, which showcases year-round events, a variety of dining experiences, and the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. CSU students also gain industry experience as they work alongside PHS Red Coats to usher CSU productions in the Allen Theatre Complex, and have access to backstage tours and master classes with the artists and technical staff of the many productions that are presented in the PHS theatres.
