Twelve Productions That Stood Out in 2016 - January 2017
Margin of Error, Ensemble Theatre - When Michael Mauldin walked on stage as the bloodthirsty political operative in this tense and witty effort by local playwright Eric Coble, it was an ideal match. As directed by Eric Schmiedl, and supported by Mary-Frances Renee Miller as his aide Daphne, Mauldin captured our current political horror show. Click here for full piece by Christine Howey.

CSU plans to perform rendition of ‘Avenue Q' - Septebmer 2016
"It's a new experience that I haven't ever come close to having before on stage," Timothy Parks, a Theatre and Dramatic Arts major, said. Parks has just been cast as one of the leads in Avenue Q. "The combination of humans and puppets is incredibly interesting to the show and helps bring a light tone to some otherwise heavy concepts." To read the full story, CLICK HERE.
Artist Rehabilitation Coalition leverages the Bard to inspire inmates (Lara Mielcarek) - September 2016
ARC is the brainchild of Lara Mielcarek. As one of Cleveland's classically trained and very popular Equity actors, Mielcarek adores Shakespeare. For the past ten summers, she's played many of his famed roles for the Ohio Shakespeare Festival at Stan Hywet Hall in Akron and is fresh from her acclaimed take on Lady Macbeth this past summer. By day, she is an adjunct professor of acting at Cleveland State University, where she's directing a workshop production of David Ives' All in the Timing in November. MARGIN OF ERROR, Ensemble Theatre (Dr. Michael Mauldin) - September 2016
Mauldin is a compressed whirlwind of repressed anger and resentment as the nicely-named Carver shreds his enemies in the airport's waiting area (although a player like him would probably have a membership in all the airline lounges). Mauldin brilliantly performs Coble's in-the-know words, showing how talking points get developed and how cardboard candidates can be made to look three-dimensional—even if stories have to be conjured up out of thin air. You can't take your eyes off Mauldin, and he rewards you with a memorable character. CLICK HERE to read full review.
