Ancestra
Outcalt Theatre at Playhouse Square
Written by Holly Holsinger and Chris Szajbert
Directed by Holly Holsinger

Ancestra is an uplifting and hauntingly beautiful depiction of the power of women coming together.

The first show of the Spring 2024 semester is a celebration of women with ANCESTRA, an original production written by Holly Holsinger and Chris Szajbert. The production weaves a historical account of the pioneers for women’s rights with the intimate biography of a contemporary journalism student who writes about reproductive healthcare. When Cora’s methods take an unconventional turn, she is plunged into a crisis through which past and present begin to converge, illuminating a long history of silencing women through intimidation and violence. A sister production of ANCESTRA was performed at Oberlin College in early February 2024. Warning: language and adult subject matter (abortion, threats of violence, discussion of abuse). Recommended for ages 14 and above.

American Sign Language (ASL) supported performance: Thurs., Feb. 29, 2024
Sign Language Interpreters will be present to sign along with the live performance.
