PROGRAM OVERVIEW
In collaboration with the Taussig Cancer Insitute and the Imaging Insitute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the Physics Department at Cleveland State University offers a course of study leading to a Graduate Certificate in Medical Physics. The certificate program has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) effective November 2014 through December 2022 http://www.campep.org/campeplstcert.asp. The certificate program is intended for individuals already possessing a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field who are interested in pursuing a career in medical physics.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for admission to the Medical Physics Certificate Program, applicants must meet the College of Graduate Studies admission requirements and hold a Ph.D. degree in physics or other areas of science or engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, biochemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or nuclear engineering) with a physics education equivalent to a minor in physics (see more detailed information on undergraduate physics preparation below).
Applicants holding a Ph.D. degree from a foreign country must also take the GRE general test (verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing) and the TOEFL with scores meeting the international admission requirements for graduate students.
All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a resume.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Students enrolled in the Medical Physics Certificate Program are not eligible for financial support.
CERTIFICATE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
The certificate program requires the following courses (minimum of 14 credits)1,2:
- PHY 530 - Medical Radiation Physics, 3cr
- PHY 531 - Radiation Biology, 2cr
- PHY 532 - Radiation Safety, 2cr
- PHY 535 - Radiation Therapy Physics, 3cr
- PHY 593 - Special Topics, 1cr
- PHY 540 - Medical Imaging Physics, 3cr
1Students lacking a suitable Anatomy and Physiology course must remedy the deficiency by taking a course approved by the program director, e.g. CSU's BIO 266 course. This course must be successfully completed before the certificate can be conferred.
2Students with a PhD degree in another discipline than physics must complete the equivalent of a Minor in Physics. This can be completed during the course of study at CSU. Inquire with the Physics Graduate Program Director on the path to complete this requirement.
