Application for Summer 2026

Priority Deadline: February 16, 2026!

Your completed application will consist of:

• An application form
  • Unfortunately, this application must be completed in one sitting. To help you have everything together, view a PDF of the application form. This way, you can see what is required before you begin.
  • As part of the application process, you will be requested to rank the available projects. View the projects.
• Email the following materials to softmatterreu@csuohio.edu :
  • A 1-page research statement that addresses
    • (a) why you are interested in research and
    • (b) why are you specifically interested in this REU site/project
  • A 1-page statement that addresses a time that you overcame an obstacle or challenge. This can be either in your academic/research life or in your personal life.
  • An unofficial transcript
• Two Letters of recommendation on letterhead emailed by your letter writers directly to softmatterreu@csuohio.edu
  • It is recommended that at least one of your letter writers is a faculty member at your home institution.
