Grace Miller, Double Honors Major in Physics and Math, Accepts REU at Duke's CERN Laboratory!
A CSU double major Grace Miller (Physics BS Honors, Math BS Honors) has been actively seeking undergraduate research opportunities while working on her degrees. After completing a research project in Dr. Bickel's lab "Characterizing Pentacene Thin Film Growth on HOPG" in the summer of 2023 (supported by CSU's Undergraduate Summer Research Award program) and presenting her research achievements at the Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (at Morgantown, VW) Grace decided to try something completely new. She applied to 10 different National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) sites across the US in hopes of being invited to one of them for a summer-long paid research experience in 2024. Thanks to her excellent academics, student leadership through the Society of Physics Students, and her impressive undergraduate research credentials, Grace has already been admitted to 3 different REUs, including programs run by the University of Michigan, Georgetown University, and Triangle University Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL)/Duke University. She is also waitlisted to REU at the University of Maryland. Grace will not wait for other admission decisions as she has chosen to join the REU in Nuclear and Particle Physics at TUNL/Duke University. As a part of the REU program Grace will spend 6 weeks of the summer in Switzerland working at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), the home to the Large Hadron Collider and hugely respected nuclear research center in the world. Congratulations, Grace! Enjoy the experience and please represent the CSU physics well.
