The tradition of reunion of the CSU Physics students, faculty, and alumni at the American Physical Society (APS) March Meetings continued in Anaheim, CA in March of 2025, during the APS Global Summit. This year CSU physics has been represented by two undergraduates, one graduate student, two CSU physics alumni, and a CSU physics faculty who gave in total two talks and six posters.

Physics major Patrick Barrett presented a poster “Analyzing Polymer-Grafted Gold Nanorods using Depolarized Dynamic Light Scattering (DDLS)” while physics major Jacob Forester presented a poster “Effects of Wind Shear on Turbulence Kinetic Energy Distributions around Shallow Cumulus Clouds”. Both posters were based on undergraduate summer research supported by CSU’s USRA program. Patrick was advised by Dr. Streletzky and Jacob was advised by Dr. Heus. In addition, an MS Physics student James Taton presented a poster on his graduate research project completed with Dr. Fodor and Dr. Kothapalli “Computational Modeling of Mass Transfer in Paper-Based Analytical Devices”.

Alumni Dr. Krista Freeman’ 12, currently a biology postdoctoral associate at the University of Pittsburgh, and Jacob Adamczyk’ 20, currently PhD candidate at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, delivered their oral presentations and attended every CSU student poster presentation, providing each student with detailed feedback and academic career advice. The CSU students and CSU Alumni then joined Dr. Streletzky for a reunion lunch. In addition, CSU students together with Dr. Streletzky drove to the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles to tour the famous facility and get a bird eye view of the City of Angeles.

They also went to a variety of physics talks and SPS events at the conference, explored the Convention Center in Anaheim with its Physics Village, met with CSU Soft Matter REU alum Anisha Jarang, and even went to the Physics Sing Along.

We hope this great tradition of physics students, faculty, and alumni getting together at the annual APS March Meetings continues. The 2025 reunion was at least 8th reunion of CSU students, faculty and alumni at a March Meeting. Since 2018 CSU had a similar reunion at every in-person APS March Meeting (except cancelled 2020 - meeting and virtual 2021 - meeting). This fact shows the strength of CSU physics program and perseverance of its alumni in physics!

The APS March Meeting is the largest physics scientific community meeting with 10,000+ contributed and invited presentations by physicists from around the world.
