Design Integrated Degrees

Design increasingly overlaps with technology, research, psychology, and human-centered problem-solving. Cleveland State University’s Integrated Degree programs allow students to combine Graphic Design with complementary disciplines in a single Interdisciplinary Degree pathway.

These programs are designed for students interested in careers that exist at the intersection of design, research, technology, and user experience. Rather than pursuing a traditional double major, students complete an intentionally integrated curriculum that combines studio-based design practice with coursework in areas such as psychology, computer science, programming, research methods, and interaction design. CSU is one of the few universities in the region currently offering integrated degree pathways of this kind.

Design + Psychology B.A.

The Design + Psychology integrated degree combines visual communication and human-centered design with the study of cognition, perception, behavior, and research methods. Students develop skills in typography, user experience (UX), interface design (UI), design research, and digital media while also learning psychological theory, statistics, and behavioral research methods.

This degree is especially well suited for students interested in:

  • User Experience (UX) Design
  • User Interface (UI) Design
  • Design Research
  • Human-Centered Design
  • Interaction Design
  • Accessibility and usability
  • Research-driven creative practice

Graduates are prepared for careers that combine design thinking with an understanding of how people perceive, interpret, and interact with digital and physical environments.

Computer Science + Design B.S.

The Computer Science + Design integrated degree combines graphic design, user experience design, and visual communication with programming, software development, and computational thinking. Students learn both creative and technical approaches to designing digital products and interactive systems.

The program includes coursework in:

  • Programming and application development
  • UX/UI Design
  • Web and mobile interfaces
  • Motion graphics and digital media
  • Design systems and interaction design
  • Data visualization
  • Human-centered technology

This degree is ideal for students interested in careers that bridge design and technology, including UX/UI development, front-end design, interactive media, creative technology, and digital product development.
