Brice Grunert Receives NASA Award for Remote Sensing
Dr. Brice Grunert, an assistant professor in the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences (BGES), has been selected to receive a three-year, $600,000 award from NASA's Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) Remote Sensing of Water Quality (RSWQ) program. The project title is "SPM and CDOM Spatiotemporal Dynamics as Predictors of Internal Phopshorus Cycling and HAB Variability in Western Lake Erie."
Dr. Grunert and co-investigator Dr. Fasong Yuan, a BGES professor, will utilize satellite monitoring along with field and lab observations to study phosphorous cycling to improve our understanding of the chemistry and biology driving changes in water quality in Lake Erie. Their work will support improved water quality management outcomes, including efforts to mitigate harmful algal blooms (HABs), in the Lake Erie basin as well as in other threatened aquatic systems.
