The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) educates future artists, creators, performers, and researchers with broad knowledge and enduring transferable skills. Our academic programs prepare students for the workplaces of today and empower our graduates to create new places for themselves as the workforce grows and changes. 

With 175+ full-time faculty and 3,000 students, the college offers 3 doctoral degrees12 master’s degrees, and 31 bachelor's degrees.

The distinguished Faculty Awards Committee selected these Arts and Sciences faculty to receive the 2025 Distinguished Faculty Award for Research:

2025 A&S Distinguished Faculty Award for Research Recipients

Cleveland State University physics major Josh Hoeflich won the top physics art prize at the 2025 Physics and Astronomy Congress in Denver, Colo., for Spectral Inheritance, an interdisciplinary project that blends scientific theory, creative expression and multigenerational storytelling.

Cleveland State University’s (CSU) Department of Theatre and Dance will host its spring dance concert Feb. 20–22 at Playhouse Square’s Allen Theatre. A celebration of form, motion and creative collaboration, the concert offers a fresh perspective on contemporary dance in Cleveland.

Prester Pickett, coordinator of the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center (HAMAACC) at CSU, has been named a recipient of the Cleveland Orchestra’s 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service in the Arts Award, honoring individuals and organizations whose work positively impacts music and the arts while reflecting the teachings of Dr. King.

This innovative summer 2026 program abroad provides exciting academic opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students by partnering with a well-known institution in San José, Costa Rica. By design, this program highlights the many ways that proficiency in Spanish and familiarity with Latin American cultures can enrich careers and lives across a broad spectrum of professions, fields of inquiry, and personal interests.
