World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures

Proficiency in a foreign language is an important part of a broad general education.

Foreign language study helps you better understand and appreciate peoples around the world and, regardless of what career you intend to pursue, you will find that being able to communicate in a second language will be an asset.

Will a foreign language really help? It certainly will! It heightens global awareness and fosters the skills necessary to participate effectively and peacefully in a competitive international environment. It also challenges Western society's understanding of itself and helps us to find new ways of understanding the world.
