Job Title & Summary

STEM Peer Teachers (SPTs) are undergraduate students who provide 150-minutes of mandatory supplemental instruction per week to students enrolled from Precalculus I through Calculus II, also known as SPT Sessions. SPTs have taken, excelled, and expressed interest in assisting students in the courses they support.

Job Description

An SPT will assist, mentor, and facilitate SPT Sessions for their assigned course. Additionally, SPTs will collaborate with their partner and respective course SPTs, attend monthly meetings, generate necessary documentation required to execute their job effectively and efficiently. SPTs support the following courses:

  • MTH 165 – Intensive Precalculus I (Foundational & College Algebra)
  • MTH 167 – Precalculus I (College Algebra)
  • MTH 168 – Precalculus II (College Trigonometry)
  • MTH 181 – Calculus I (Differential and Integral Calculus)
  • MTH 182 – Calculus II (Integration Techniques, Infinite Sequences & Series, and Polar Coordinates)
  • MTH 281 – Multivariable Calculus
  • MTH 286 – Differential Equations I

Minimum Qualifications

A CSU student selected for the STEM Peer Teacher position: 

  • Must be a communicative and collaborative team member.
  • Possess great time management and organizational skills.
  • Be comfortable speaking publicly.
  • Create and meet deadlines.
  • Show interest in assisting and mentoring undergraduate peers.
  • Complete the following job requirements the semester(s) they are hired:
    • Facilitate SPT Sessions (3 hours per week)
    • Attend Class Sessions (3 hours per week)
    • Participate in weekly Respective Course Team (RCT) Meeting (1 hour per week)
    • Plan, create, and upload documentation related to position (3–5 hours per week)
  • Complete SPT Trainings prior to Fall 2026 Semester (Dates TBD)

Hiring Contingencies:

Applicant must:

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.0
  • Receive a passing grade (C or above) in all courses the semester prior to hire
  • Not have been found responsible for serious violations of the Student Code of Conduct
