Current Students

Within this page is information regarding procedures on how to rent instruments, lockers, and spaces, how to sign up for Thursday Series, general recital procedures and timelines and more.

Thursday Series

  • Thursday Series is a weekly event in which students, faculty, or guests are able to perform, lecture, or present. This opportunity allows students to practice both performing and being an audience member, invites faculty to demonstrate performance etiquette for their students, and provides a space for faculty and guest speakers to present material that may otherwise not fit into a class schedule.
  • Anyone wishing to sign up to participate in Thursday Series may do so by clicking the button below, or by scanning one of the QR codes placed on bulletin boards around the building.

Locker Information

  • The School of Music offers two different types of lockers: personal and instrument.
    • Personal lockers allow students to store items such as books, bags, coats, and other items they don't want to carry with them throughout the day.
    • Instrument lockers are for instruments and music only. *Note: The instrument curator reserves the right to check instrument lockers and will ask that items other than instruments and music be removed.
  • Locks will be supplied by the instrument curator when the student reserves a locker. Students are not permitted to provide their own lock.
  • Students looking to rent either type of locker my do so using the button below.

Instrument Rentals

  • CSU is home to a vast collection of instruments in every family which are available to students to check out for academic purposes.
  • Students who wish to check out an instrument can inquire by emailing m.seig@csuohio.edu

Reserving a Space

  • There are many practice rooms open to students to use freely within school hours, however, some of the larger spaces require a reservation.
  • The School of Music allows students to reserve spaces for individual or group rehearsal at no cost, but students must fill out the form below at least two weeks prior to the requested date.

Recital Information

  • All students pursuing a degree in performance, composition, or education are required to present at least one recital (see degree requirements for specifics).
  • Before registering for a recital, students must obtain permission from their applied lesson teacher, then register one semester before the recital is to be given.
  • Students are responsible for assembling their committee, choosing repertoire, creating a program, obtaining a collaborative pianist, scheduling facilities, and more. All of these steps are carried out by the student with guidance from both faculty and staff to ensure the student is understanding the material, and progressing through the process in a timely manner.
  • For more information on recital procedures, refer to the appropriate handbook and speak with the applied faculty member you receive lessons from.
