About the Galleries

Overview

With a mission to educate, edify, and involve diverse audiences, the Galleries at Cleveland State University presents exhibitions and related programs that promote the understanding of art and its relationship to society. The Galleries also serve as an academic laboratory for the study, contemplation, and critical analysis of works of art and their context.

In addition to learning from the artworks on display, students get an opportunity to gain professional experience and learn job skills in the museum field and in the administration of non-profit organizations, as well as knowledge about the art market and the business of art.

The art gallery provides visual arts programming for the university and community. In addition to important local and regional artists, nationally and internationally known artists have participated in exhibitions, workshops, and lectures.

The Galleries is widely recognized as a major contributor to the cultural life in the region, with an annual attendance from Ohio, the United States, and abroad. The Art Gallery is funded by Cleveland State University with support from the Ohio Arts Council, individual donors and philanthropic foundations.
