Degree Description
Prepare for a career in research, pharmaceutical science and other related fields. You'll engage in original laboratory work and scientific research early in the program to gain a comprehensive understanding of chemistry as a bench science and develop your practical skills sooner. You???ll also have the opportunity to participate in scientific research through the Honors or Scholars Program.

Admissions Process
You've never attended college or all your college credits were earned prior to high school graduation (College Credit Plus or dual-enrollment).
Step 1:
Complete the application for undergraduate admission. Freshmen applicants can apply here through the CSU Application or the Common Application.
Step 2:
Submit the $40 application fee.
*CSU is currently waiving application fees through Fall 2025
Step 3:
Submit official transcripts. Please refer to the FAQ below for information on how to send your transcripts.
Step 4:
CSU is test optional for Admission. Students are encouraged to submit official ACT/SAT results for scholarship consideration.
Step 5:
Once your application is submitted and reviewed, you will receive an admission decision. Respond to your offer and complete these next steps to secure your spot.

Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, and properties of substances, and the chemical processes and transformations that substances undergo. It is fundamental to the understanding of many other sciences.
Major Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry - American Chemical Society (ACS) Certified Track
The program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree provides a strong foundation in the fundamentals of chemistry, physics, and mathematics, and meets the requirements for professional certification by the American Chemical Society. This program provides the broad fundamental knowledge most suited to students planning to become professional chemists or planning to pursue graduate training.
Admission to Major
No additional requirements beyond the prerequisites for the required courses.
Hours Required for Degree
Minimum hours required for the degree: 120
Minimum hours required for major with ACS Certification: 92 - 93
Minimum hours required for pre-professional major: 89 - 90
Minimum hours required for pre-professional with concentration in pharmaceutical science major: 91 - 92
Minimum hours required for minor: 24

- CHM 261 - General Chemistry I or CHM 261H - Honors General Chemistry I
- CHM 266 - General Chemistry Laboratory I
- CHM 262 - General Chemistry II or CHM 262H - Honors General Chemistry II
- CHM 267 - General Chemistry Laboratory II or CHM 267H - Honors General Chemistry Laboratory II or CHM 278 - R.E.E.L. General Chemistry Laboratory II
- Electives: 13 to 16 additional credits of Chemistry courses numbered 300 or higher
