Social System processes in Mood, Personality, and Development Follow-Up Study

The goal of this study is to understand how people’s body signals relate to their emotions, their relationships, and what they do to feel better. We hope to better understand why some people develop emotion problems and others do not. We also want to understand how people make and keep good relationships with each other. This information may help us to develop ways of teaching people to handle difficult emotions and keep healthy relationship.

In this study we have participants complete a questionnaire, an activity on the computer that has participants view people’s faces while we measure where you look and be interviewed by our personnel about your mood and emotions. The interview includes questions about whether you received treatment for emotional problems as well as information on the nature of that treatment. We also ask participants if they've ever experienced symptoms of various emotional problems, including those related to mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. We have participants complete several activities while we measure heart rate, breathing, and sweat activity on your hands. These activities will include watching several film clips while remembering and telling us memories about neutral, negative, and positive events in your life. We use Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to measure the participants' mood, affect, and things going on in their life for 7 days.
