Math and Stats Special TAG seminar
Henry Chimal-Dzul,
a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame
The first hour is meant to familiarize everyone with the notions we use in ring and module theory, like Jacobson radical and Annihilators. Some examples will be presented. The aim of the second hour would be to introduce the theory of linear codes over finite rings and point out the main differences between coding theory over finite fields and coding theory over finite rings. Emphasis will be put on homogeneous weights, cyclic codes, and the duality of codes over finite rings. This will lead us to the third hour, where we will talk about Quasi-Frobenius, Symmetric, and Frobenius rings. The last hour will be on the fundamental and still open problem of the classification of finite rings. This will bring a lot of examples of finite rings.
  • 9:00 - 10:00 am: Lecture 1 - Fundamental notions on rings
  • 10:00 - 10:30 am: Coffee break
  • 10:30 - 11:30 am: Lecture 2 - Introduction to coding theory over finite rings
  • 11:30 am - 12:15 pm: Informal discussion/questions with Henry
  • 1:30 - 2:30 pm: Lecture 3- Symmetric, frobenius, and quasi-frobenius
  • 2:30 - 3:00 pm: Coffee break
  • 3:00 - 3:50 pm: Lecture 4 - Classification of finite rings
