Music, Movement, and the Brain

This workshop will first cover a brief overview of basic neuroanatomy/neurophysiology, as well as the various neuroscience measurement tools to enhance understanding and to set the stage for deeper understanding of the second portion of the workshop. The second portion of the workshop will provide information on how music impacts movement and the associated neurophysiology supported by current research. Specific examples in Parkinson's disease will be shared. Participants will experience hands-on activities to enhance learning, as well as didactic lectures and discussion.

  • 2:00-2:30 p.m. - Check in
  • 2:30-3:45 p.m. - Overview of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology
  • 3:45-4:00 p.m. - Break
  • 4:00-5:15 p.m. - Movement, the Brain, and Music Therapy
  • 5:15-5:30 p.m. – Evaluations

Learner Objectives

  • Participants will identify five brain structures and function.
  • Participants will identify three neuroscience measurement tools to better understand neuroanatomy and neurophysiology and interpret research results.
  • Participants will identify three ways in which music modulates movement and underlying neurophysiology and identify two ways in which this applies to music therapy.
  • Participants will apply the information learned to two of their own music therapy experiences.

Music therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation therapists (OT, PT, SLP, TR, etc.), medical professionals, educators, social workers/counselors, musicians

Refund Policy
