As we begin a new semester, I extend a warm welcome to our students, faculty, and staff. To our students—both returning and new—the Department of Africana Studies is here to support your academic journey. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping you navigate your studies and address any concerns you may have. Your academic success remains our top priority.

Africana Studies is dedicated to exploring and celebrating the rich history, culture, and heritage of people of African descent across the African diaspora. Our programs and events highlight this aspect, which we believe is crucial to our academic mission.

This year, we continue to focus on recruitment and retention efforts. Our goal is to grow our community of majors and minors while ensuring that current students thrive and successfully complete their programs. To our new majors and minors, welcome! I’m thrilled that you’ve chosen Africana Studies, and I look forward to working with you throughout the academic year.

We also celebrate the achievements of our recent graduates. Congratulations! As you embark on your next chapter, I encourage you to carry forward the values of Africana Studies. Social justice is central to our discipline, and I urge you to be agents of change in your communities as we work together toward a more inclusive society.
