Cleveland ARTS Education Consortium (CAEC)

CAEC & Schools & the Arts

The Cleveland Arts Education Consortium (CAEC) and its members have developed significant and valuable connections with school districts throughout Cuyahoga County and beyond.

CAEC has created a special booklet with examples of a number of member organizations’ arts programs. Programs are available for all area school districts, including Cleveland, as well as for community organizations and groups.

Download the booklet to help you find arts programs of all types for children and youth (PreK-Grade 12) from many CAEC member organizations (descriptions and contacts included).

CMSD & the Arts

Many members have established strong partnerships with the largest urban school district in the area, Cleveland Metropolitan School District — and worked with CMSD administrative and school leaders, teachers, students and families. We are proud to serve the Cleveland Schools.
Our many-layered partnerships are enhanced with CAEC’s annual CMSD Update presentations with CEO Eric Gordon.

We also maintain beneficial connections with CMSD’s Family and Community Engagement team to support CAEC members’ introductory and immersive arts programs provided to the schools in dance, drama, music, visual arts, creative writing, media and digital design, cultural history each year.

CMSD’s new Arts Director for the District. Jeffery Allen, is facilitating detailed planning sessions this year with administration, school, parent and community arts leaders to develop a robust arts education curriculum for every school. A Cleveland native with a theater background, Jeffery Allen previously worked for the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage as the Director of Education and Public Programs.

“The importance of arts as a means of communicating giant ideas, but also as a way of transforming a community, was really what was waking me up at night and motivating me to get up in the morning,” Allen said. “The opportunity to come here and bring those life experiences to the scholars of our District is a dream come true.”  (CMSD News Bureau)

CAEC Surveys of Members’ Programs in CMSD

CAEC surveyed members to learn of their programming work and contacts with Cleveland Schools during the 2018-2019 school year. We are pleased to say that CAEC members have connected with all Cleveland Schools in 2018-2019 as they did in 2016-2017, and while for some schools it was one or two contacts, those arts connections will continue to grow.

We recently connected one artist-in-residence with a nearby school (non CMSD) and both students and artist reported a positive value on that experience. So, we are interested to engage similar opportunities in the future.”
