MS Applied Physics student, Samuel Osei participates in the COMSOL 2026 – Boston Conference
On Thursday, October 6, 2026, Samuel Osei, Physics MS – Applied Physics, class of 2026, has presented his research, “Droplet Generation Modeling in Microfluidic Emulsifying Devices with Expansion Regions,” at the international COMSOL Conference 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference was an exciting and rewarding experience that allowed Samuel to share his research, learn from other scientists and engineers, and explore innovative applications of computational modeling and multiphysics simulations.
Samuel research under the guidance of Dr. Petru S. Fodor, Professor and Chair in the CSU Physics Department, investigates how hyperbolic expansion regions in microfluidic emulsifiers, can be used to better control the droplet break-off dynamics in emulsifiers ensuring better uniformity and high throughput. This research has potential applications in biomedical research, drug delivery, and lab-on-a-chip technologies, that rely on emulsifying systems to produce a broad array of monodisperse droplets with well controlled sizes.
One of the most exciting highlights of Samuel’s participation was having his research selected by the COMSOL Conference organizers as one of just a few research poster presentations to be featured in topical interviews. The team selected innovative projects demonstrating how researchers are using COMSOL Multiphysics to address scientific and engineering challenges. Being chosen to discuss his work provided Samuel with an excellent opportunity to explain his research, share the motivation behind the project, and highlight the potential of computational modeling to advance microfluidic technologies.
Samuel is particularly grateful for the financial support received from the CSU College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Graduate Studies, as well as the Physics Department alumni and friends, that made this conference participation possible.
