Admission Process

Applicants for the online Master of Science in Computer Science program must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Washkewicz College of Engineering.

Admission Requirements for the Online Master of Science in Computer Science

Applicants are eligible to apply to the online MS in Computer Science program if they have earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from a regionally accredited institution or a bachelor’s degree in any field and meet prerequisite computing knowledge requirements.*

Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's program. Alternatively, applicants must have a minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA in an applicable master's degree program.

All applicants must submit:

Graduate admission application and application fee.
Official transcripts.
Program-specific admission essay.
An up-to-date curriculum vitae or resume.
One professional letter of recommendation.

Applying as a non-computer science student

A foundational knowledge of computer science is essential for success in this program. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in computer science from an accredited institution or a bachelor’s degree in any field and completed one of the following:

Bridge Program

The Bridge Program includes four foundational courses that you can complete in person or online. This program helps you develop essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in the master's degree. To get started, submit your Bridge Program application.

Computer Science Fundamentals Bootcamp

This bootcamp includes three custom-designed, noncredit courses that allow you to complete the foundational program prerequisites 100% online and in a single summer.

Deadlines

An applicant whose native language is not English (regardless of current residency) must provide proof of English proficiency.

Interactive Learning Experience

Our program combines theory with practical application, offering a mix of live, interactive lectures and project-based learning. At least half of your coursework includes live virtual sessions, fostering collaboration with faculty and peers while ensuring personalized support.

Depending on your schedule, you can choose an accelerated one-year track with two live sessions per week or a more flexible two-year option with one weekly live session. Outside of these sessions, you can complete coursework at your convenience.

Prepare for In-Demand Certifications

While certifications are not required for all computer science careers, they can give you a competitive edge in the job market. Students are encouraged to pursue industry-recognized credentials such as AWS Certified Developer, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
